Some song what I've liked from the year

(Pic - The MegaPowers, Macho Man Randy Savage & Hulk Hogan, here with Ms. Elizabeth who I totally fancied as a young'en.)

I was going to do some kind of 'best of 2008' but then I realised that I couldn't be arsed.

Sky - Toccata (1985)

I cannot find an mp3 of this, so I am going to have ask my mum for a lend of the album.

This is amazing and I cannot express how much it made me smile remembering this piece of madness.

Blue Oyster Cult - Songs which aren't Don't Fear the Reaper

I first became aware of the BOC because Don't Fear the Reaper is in the TV movie The Stand based on some Stephen King shite about the end of the world. I got it on double VHS because I had taken out a subscription to SFX mag so I could rub one out to hot sci-fi chicks on the sly! Or in reality because I loved Star Trek: The Next Generation a lot. I taped the song from the VHS, using a mic function we had on a boom box and listened to it loads. But it only had it up the break and robed me of the last 2 mins of the song!

Don't Fear the Reaper, then appears again in my life at the end of the Peter Jackson film The Frightners with Mr Shake Hands himself, Michael J 'Alex P Keaton' Fox. And I loved it. I used to watch the laserdisc again and again, skipping the film, going straight to end. LOVED IT!

Now everyone knows and loves DFTR but I listened to the album it came from the other day, and yes the song is the best on there but these are worth a stab I'd say.

Cliff Richard - Devil Woman (1976)

Cliff Richard - Devil Woman

Hell's horses. It rocks.

The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane (1990)

SUCK MY DICK...TRACY! OH! Perestroika gripped the Soviet Union, the wall has recently fallen in Berlin and Linekar was telling Pearce to keep an eye on Gazza and Andrew Dice Clay was riding high in the world.

The Diceman was given his own vehicle. He plays the titular, Ford Fairlane whose adventures we are privy too in the aforementioned Adventures Of... OH!

The film is a fairly sexist and vile piece of rehashed noir. Femme fatale, played by Prescilla Presley, murdered best friend played by Gilbert Godfried and a poorly thought out storyline involving something or other. Also a Koola bear gets hung, which is pretty fucking funny.

Directed by shameless hack, Renny Harlin (though he did direct Long Kiss Goodnight and all time great b-film Deep Blue Sea both of which I deeply love), this film is a perfect to companion piece to Hudson Hawk and the first two Die Hards. The Diceman really could have been John McClain or Hudson. Willis and the Diceman both mug remorselessly throughout their films, Clay's saving grace being that I think he's aware that this is bullshit.

Have a Joe Meek Christmas

Valerie Masters - Christmas Calling

Roger La Verne & The Microns - Christmas Stocking

Jolly Christmas funnster (and jolly rogering Christmas bumder) Joe Meek is a total favorite o'mine. Introduced to me some time a go now by The Sharades - Dumb Head and the old favorite John Leynton - Johnny Remember Me I love the wonderful home made sound of these records. The production is perfect but when you realise that is was all done is his home made studio down Holloway Road, with drummers in the bathroom, singers in the living room and guitar players in the hallway and Joe taping his foot elsewhere in the house it all becomes very cosy and very very English.
