Phil Collins - Tomorrow Never Knows

Phil Collins - Tomorrow Never Knows

Christ. This is shit.

Chicago Bears - Superbowl Shuffle (1985)

I don't have too much love for American Football but I have a genuine soft spot for the Bears of Chicago. Good luck on not appearing in the superbowl this weekend and fuck the Packers of Green Bay. The Tottenham of Yankee football, probably.

Flexible

Flexitime

NSFW - PRON PRON PRON. And very funny pron it is too.

Ups and downs... But ups again.

I was getting my haircut at Fish with Angela. I am devoted to Angela as my hairdresser. She is very nice and funny (looks very 50's/60's Beat girl) but also always has a great collection of music playing in the salon (always hers mind, no one else seems to get a look in). I thumbed through todays CD's to get a peep (Deerhunters's new album, Blonde Redhead, Bridgette Bardot) and on comes Pat Bentar. Awesome. 45mins of Pat. Oh I was in heaven; hair cut and Pat.

And this, as good as any other reason, inspired me to put up all the tunes that have recently been making me smile or ones that have made me smile in the past.

Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag

Pat Benatar - Heartbreaker

Level 42 - Running in the Family

Joy Formidable - The Greatest Light is the Greatest Shade

Animal Collective - My Girls

Peter Engemann - Push it to the Limit (I think this forms the first of some posts about music from that imaginairy club where all the guys dance in white suits and the girls dance only in that 'jerky' 80's way)

Generation Kill (2008)

So various newspapers, well pointedly Charlie Brooker in The Guardian, have produced enough column inches collectively and alternately wanking and rubbing their chins about The Wire to power our much needed second earth. Yeah, whatever, big wow. I have seen the first series and the second series (I watched them in order as well) and it was great. Well it was great when it a bit of secret but now the fucking series is everywhere and as such I can't be fucked to watch it. Which makes me a pompous cunt. Yep.

This meant that I approached Generation Kill with some trepidation. I had no money last week and little toilet roll so I downloaded the series with the intention of seeing how the first episode was and maybe reusing a few old rags should it prove dire... And fuck me if it wasn't the best thing I have seen in ages. My bicep was relaxed and my peepers glued to the screen.

Blue - One Love

I went to school with the fat one from Blue. He was in a production of Caberet. He was a cunt then and I feel no reason why he would have changed.

Patra - Queen of the Pack

Oh my god I remember getting to the vinegar strokes with this video. The Box. Again.

Xanadu (1980)

I have no idea what it is inside me that compels my entire being to want to see this film right now!

I would guess it is the following combination of things:

  1. Rollerdisco
  2. ELO
  3. Olivia Newton-John, I quite fancy her. Well, before she went barking evangelical, jebus freak.

Sophie B. Hawkins - Damn (Fitforuse Remix)

Take song. Remix in very basic fashion. Release on internet. Stand back.

Leonard Nimoy - He the man!

This man is brilliant. Sod the Spock bollocks, he was in Kaufman's Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, directed Three Men and a Little Baby, Star III, Star Trek IV: The one with the whales and he did a load of kick ass cover albums.

Leonard Nimoy - Highly Illogical

Australia and all that business...

Rolf Harris - Sun Arise

Now, who the fuck knows what Australia is all about. I'm from London.

My plan was to post a great cover version of the Crocodile Dundee by L'Ora Tredici I found on 12amMaternal a few years back. However my external hard drive is up the tits so I can't upload right now.

Erika Elgen - I Want To Marry A Lighthouse Keeper (1972)

Erika Elgen - I Want To Marry A Lighthouse Keeper

Between the ages of 8 & 25, I was desperate to be a lighthouse keeper. I thought it would be the coolest job in the world. Go up the lighthouse everynight, switch a light on and fuck off down the ale house with my dog to tell stories and get even more ruddy cheeked. And if some ship didn't smash on the rocks you're a pissing hero for turning on a light. WALLOP!

I still want that job now but the fucking future has happened and the cunts are all automated.

SHIT!

Talking Heads - This Must be the Place (Naive Melody) (Live version from Stop Making Sense)

I have the DVD of Stop Making Sense in my room to watch and this song, as cool as it is, is not the factor that makes me want to watch it. Jonathan Demme directed it and, famously, it is shot as a very unconventional concert film. No crowd shots. No guitar solo close-ups. Each song is set-piece in its self. So yeah, I should probably go and put the DVD on. NICE AND FUCKING LOUD!

Kate Bush - Cloudbusting (1985)

Whenever I think about Kate Bush, I always think of some green leotarded woman prancing about in a country manor, talking in a baby voice to the fairies which surround her, running around with that dog from the New Order video for Blue Monday. A real level of mentalism that would grate after 34 seconds of exposure too.
Throw in Anthony Hopkins doing his Tommy Cooper impressions, Dervla Kerwin pouting like she did on Ballykissangel, Mr Motivator, Mr T and Mr Mr having a dance off about who the best Mr is, aided by 5 grams of angry powder and it would be a hell of a party.

Bill Conti - Training Hard (1986)

Bill Conti - Training Hard

From the Karate Kid soundtrack. Get motivated. Bill Conti, is there anything he can't do?

Taja Sevelle - Love Is Contagious (1987)

Taja Sevelle - Love Is Contagious

An oft remembered song for me when I am feeling particularly love lorn. Returned to me by fate a few years hence, when a friend heard it in a restaurant during their own courting period. As soon as they mentioned it to me, I remembered it all. But before that moment. Nowt. And now I'll never forget it. I love this song.

Hey look. More TV shows I loved from telly

21 Jump Street - Sundays nights, Sky One after The Simpsons in about 1993. Give a fuck about Johnny Depp, Peter DeLuise from Seaquest DSV and Steven Williams from the second season of the X-files was in it.

Family Ties - I think this was on Channel 4 in about 88 or so.

Crazy Like a Fox - Can't remember when this was on, but it was ITV at about 8pm, maybe on Wednesday's. I remember having to ask my mum if I could stay up to watch it.

(About 4mins in, but also worth checking out the Love Boat intro for Andy Warhol)

Facts Of Life - Cable TV. Fuck all clue when I actually saw it.

Silver Spoons - This was on an awful short lived cable channel called Wire TV. They had fuck all money so bought this awful piece of shit programme.

Who's the Boss - Terrible show but Alyssa Milano was in it.

ALF - Greatest TV show of the 80's
